Old Man - Jerry Talbot Owings

September 5, 2005

I have a tremendous admiration for my Dad's ability to capture subtle detail.

This drawing illustrates his dedication to capturing the mood.

If I try to see his art objectively and I think as an artist he stays within himself and is extremely disciplined. The detail in his work is impressive, I was lucky enough to have some of his talent for pencil and pen. His skillful use of shadow and light shows a careful study of his subject matter which I often imitate, but have yet to master. I think of my Dad as a true master with pencil and ink. He does not paint much, but if and when he takes it up I am sure whatever he creates will be impressive.
