Lonely Walk - 8.5 X 11 Charcoal on Sketch Paper |
Day 11
This is a charcoal sketch I did today which depicts 7th street in downtown Saint Paul during the snow storm we just experienced. The streets were impassable to anything but four-wheel drive trucks and suv's, but this brave soul decided to take on the blizzard by foot.
The city was just about deserted by late afternoon. In the midst of the most intense storm in decades, most people wisely stayed in their homes riding out the storm in safety. I wanted to capture it in photography so I went out in spite of the warnings from authorities. Fortunately I have a very good running Toyota 4-Runner, one of the most dependable vehicles ever built. I was able to go where others couldn't and take some interesting pictures. Here are 72 of them on my Facebook page.
I enjoy architecture and Saint Paul has many classic American examples of late 19th and early 20th century buildings. It was interesting to see the old buildings in the midst of the storm. I think this drawing sums up my mood today.
