From The Sketchbook - Dec 2012

Portrait Study - Graphite Pencil - 8.5 X 11 inches
December 24, 2012

It's Christmas Eve and I thought I'd throw up a few recent sketches. The vase is my nemesis. I've been sketching this vase, poorly, for years now. The objective is to create a freehand sketch that bares a likeness to the real object. As anyone can plainly see the results have not been spectacular. But there's the thing about drawing, you can't give up. It's hours a day, over and over, until you get it right.

No matter how your drawings turn out, you have to push on. If you ever want to get better, it takes practice...lots of practice. Learning the fundamentals is also helpful and so are various techniques, but nothing replaces practice.

Merry Christmas.
