From the serious to the whimsical, here is some of my work from the past month. As mentioned in my previous post I had the opportunity to attend a class with Painter Jim Robinson at the
Art Academy in Saint Paul. Mr. Robinson focuses on teaching the traditional methods used by the Old Masters.

Field Study - Graphite, Ink and Watercolors |
Precise drawing, to foundational underpainting, Mr. Robinson's methods are designed to equip the Amateur and the Professional alike with tools that raise the quality of their work. I learned several new techniques from Mr. Robinson and am thankful to have had the opportunity to study under him. I plan to return to his studio in the next semester to learn more.
Lot's of fun and memories associated with these drawings. I draw at many locations, from coffee shops, malls and the local zoo, to outdoor locations. I love drawing and painting on-site.

Portrait Study - John Speed - Oil |
Larry and I share many similar interests and he's the only other person I know that's as addicted to the craft as I am. We make time to sketch and paint together every week. It's not always easy with work, family and other commitments, but the time to practice our craft has become sacred. Art is a commitment as much as anything else you care about is a commitment. To reap the greatest rewards from it, you have to invest.

Here is the oil painting I worked on under Jim Robinson's guidance. I really enjoyed the process and the ultimately the results. Definitely something I believe will help advance my skills.
