Day 12 - MJ

MJ - Pastel and Conte on 90 lb Classic Cream 11 x 14
Day 12

This is my beautiful sister Mandy. She is one of my five wonderful sisters who make the world a better place. When you stop to think about how much you have in common with your siblings it's amazing. We have shared experiences that connect us forever in the most deep and meaningful ways.

Mandy is an amazingly special person whose managed to overcome many obstacles in her life and to create her own fantastic journey. She and I have seen things that would make social workers re-write the books on parenting :-). And yet through it all, over the many growing pains, hardships and trials that make up our youthful together lives, and later separate lives, we're still friends. These are things I sometimes don't express, but that I never forget.

On August 14, 1971 I was blessed to have her join me  on the wonderful journey that has been our lives and I am thankful for her every single day. I love you MJ.

Now, about the drawing. I used a pastel pencil made by Stablio called Carb Othello for the base drawing. Then I used a Conte, which is like a compressed Pastel chalk but has a sort of crayon feel to it. The Conte is easy to work with and I enjoy its flexibility. I used Canson Classic Cream 90 lb paper which has a nice texture and grabs the pastels without spreading them too much. This drawing took me several hours to complete, but I loved the process and the subject matter :-)

Here is the base sketch:

This is a sweet drawing of your sister. I agree that siblings have so much history together, that no matter what happens, they will always hold a special place in each other's hearts.
